Sophie Livingstone

Psychotherapist & Supervisor

Welcome

Apologies, I am not taking on new clients for the time being.

Welcome to my website.  I am a UKCP registered and BACP Senior Accredited Psychotherapist.  I've worked for 20 years with many people from all walks of life.  I run my private practice from my home in the Portobello Road area of London.

I offer a calm, supportive and respectful space for you to safely bring the issues and difficulties you are facing. My approach is integrative, combining practical, behavioural and psychoeducational strategies with deeper emotional exploration. The way I work is informed by trauma theory; contemporary relational psychoanalysis and attachment theory; principles of CBT and DBT; neuroscience; and acceptance that life, and being human, is complicated.

I believe the social and cultural context in which we live is highly relevant to our mental health, and it can be enlightening and helpful to explore this. My approach includes an awareness of the experience of 'difference', whether through race, class, sexuality, gender, age, neurodiversity or disability.  I work in an affirming way, believing in the importance of having our experience really heard and validated, and the fundamental human need to belong, feel welcomed, and be ourselves.

Therapy offers a space for curiosity, insight, understanding, compassion, growth, and change. It is a safe, confidential place to share what is immensely difficult, but it can involve humour and laughter too. This is also an important part of coming to terms with hardships and loss, and of healing.
