About me
My career in therapy began in 2004, following several years living in California, and prior to that working in the film business in London. For six years I counselled for low-cost counselling services such as Westminster Mind and the Help Counselling Centre on Portobello Rd, where I subsequently became Senior Counsellor and Co-ordinator. Between 2007 and 2012 I worked as a staff counsellor for two different London NHS Trusts. Since 2009 I have maintained a private practice, working with adult individuals, both short and long term. I also supervise other practicing therapists. Until 2017, alongside private practice, I worked several days a week for an addiction treatment clinic, seeing individuals and couples. I devised and taught the sexual compulsivity (addiction) module on the CICS Clinical Sexology course in 2018-2019. For four years I worked as a tutor and student supervisor at The Minster Centre, an integrative psychotherapy training in central London. I taught on 'Skills' weekends for foundation level students, as well as attachment theory and trauma theory/skills to more senior students.
For now, I work in private practice as a psychotherapist and supervisor, and undertake some voluntary work. Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is a big part of my work and I regularly attend CPD events and more substantial courses. I have, for example, undertaken further training in psychosexual and relationship therapy, and Somatic Experiencing, a body-oriented therapeutic model for resolving symptoms of trauma and other stress disorders. As I am something of a psychotherapy geek, I am now embarking upon my final year studying for a Masters (MSc) in Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies (non-clinical) at UCL, which has helped me to more deeply understand the historical, philosophical and theoretical roots of the profession, but also therapy work itself. I have studied many different approaches to psychotherapeutic work. Each offers compelling and valuable ways to think about the human condition, and how we might recover our mental health, heal and live more fully.
After several unsatisfactory years of renting therapy rooms I opted to work from my home, which has, for over 16 years, offered a comfortable, safe environment in which to work. While I do work online, meeting in person is infinitely preferable and I strongly recommend it.
Sometimes our cat puts in an appearance, usually sleeping, but if you are allergic to or don't like cats just let me know.
